Dortmund, as the third-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and part of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, has undergone very positive development in recent years. In 2021/2022, the purchase of a plot of around 10,770 square metres laid the foundation for the next quarter development.
The address of the new project is located in the east of the city on Hamburger Straße 78 and 120. With this location on one of the city’s main arterial roads, the planned development connects the Wilhelminian-era “Kaiserbrunnen Quartier” with the new development area on the site of the former Ostbahnhof. Just one kilometre from the city centre, the project is excellently connected to all forms of public transport and offers a central residential location and a good starting point for work and leisure.
The construction project bears the name “East Gate” and, following the currently planned completion in 2025, will comprise around 107 residential units and 9 townhouses, and will also provide the quarter with urgently needed daycare places. Uses in the field of sport and leisure are planned for the ground-floor areas. All of this is embedded in a lushly landscaped setting with small gardens, a green inner courtyard and roof terraces or roof gardens. Planning is carried out together with the nationally renowned architecture firm Gerber. The concept includes a modern mobility concept and the principle of the “city of short distances”; all planning aspects are considered together.
In conclusion, in our “East Gate” project we see the opportunity to provide a keystone for the decades-long development of the quarter in Dortmund and, on the other hand, to create a further building block for housing development in the quarter. With the start of construction, we look forward to realising this vision.
