The Straelen-based company has been awarded the contract for a 58-million-euro project in Bergheim. It is one of the largest contracts in the more than 140-year company history. The building is due to be completed in 2023.
The Tecklenburg company has existed since 1878. But the Straelen-based firm has rarely had such a large contract. The project entrusted to Tecklenburg has a volume of 58 million euros – the construction of the new district police authority of the Rhein-Erft district in Bergheim. It is one of the largest contracts in the company’s history. According to Anke Müller, assistant to the management, the volume is comparable to the „Ratingen, Wallhöfe“ project.
The company from Straelen prevailed in a Europe-wide tender that came onto the market in March 2019. „Unlike other public tenders, neither a plot of land was available, nor was there any planning for the building to be constructed“, states a Tecklenburg press release. Only an extensive functional description made clear to the bidders what requirements were placed on the location and the fittings of such a central police authority. Thus, the first task was to look out for a suitable plot and to draw up complete planning tailored to the needs of the police, in order to then submit a rental price offer for a finished special-purpose property. After a long discussion within the company about whether one should take on such a time- and labour-intensive challenge and the competitors as part of a Europe-wide tender, company head Hermann Tecklenburg made the decision: „We’ll do it, because we can.“
Under the leadership of Dieter Gust, the Tecklenburg engineers, together with the architects JBR and Partner from Münster, developed a concept that ultimately was awarded the contract for the best offer on 11 May by the representatives of the state of NRW and the district police. The purchase option negotiated with the town of Bergheim for a suitable plot formed the basis for the further planning steps.
On more than 12,000 square metres of usable floor space, modern work and functional rooms for 430 employees of the district police were taken into account both technically and architecturally in the planning concept. The programme areas comprise the police station with the custody area, the control centre, various police-specific secured rooms and office spaces for different departments that have to stand in varying relationships to one another. Furthermore, the planning includes a publicly accessible canteen as well as an outdoor area with 321 parking spaces, garages, carports and workshops.
At the signing of the contract, Hermann Tecklenburg spoke of a „great new project for our company“. After an intensive phase of execution and detailed planning, the start of the construction work is scheduled for next year. The handover to the district police is to take place in 2023. Source: RP
