The new REWE store on Ostwall is complemented by the DM drugstore. The entire building is being realised by the Straelen construction company Tecklenburg. In mid-2016, five renowned architecture firms from Düsseldorf, Cologne, Münster, Neuss and Straelen were invited to design an urban development concept for the realisation of a full-range supermarket on the car park at Ostwall. The winning design of the architecture firm Fritschi & Stahl from Düsseldorf convinced the jury, consisting of experts, politicians and public figures in Straelen. Particularly praised were the urban development conception and, at the same time, the innovative and recognisable architecture, specially tailored to the Straelen town centre and the surrounding area. REWE Dortmund was won as a tenant, thereby expanding its presence on the Lower Rhine and significantly enhancing the Straelen location as well as closing an existing supply gap as a full-range supplier. REWE places great value on a high-quality and extensive range, which will be offered to the people of Straelen in future. With a lease with an initial term of 20 years, REWE sends a clear signal of committing to Straelen in the long term. The new REWE store is complemented by a DM drugstore. DM has likewise decided to establish a long-term presence in Straelen and thus round off the offering of the full-range supermarket. The building application for both the REWE and the DM store is being prepared and will be submitted by Tecklenburg GmbH in April of this year. To underline the quality concept from the outset, the future REWE building will be planned and built according to REWE’s own “Green Building” concept. The environmental and energy standards that apply are specified by REWE. After the building permit is granted, construction is expected to begin in June/July 2018. Completion will then be with the opening of the new REWE and DM stores in March 2019.
