The laying of the foundation stone for the Tecklenburg company’s new project in the flower city took place on Thursday. All 17 condominiums had already been sold before construction began.
For Hermann Tecklenburg, joyful events are currently coming one after another. On Wednesday evening in Milton Keynes he successfully kept his fingers crossed for his wife Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and the women’s national football team she coaches.
On Saturday he will be cheering on “his” SV Straelen when they face FC St. Pauli in Duisburg in the DFB Cup. And on Thursday afternoon he had a pleasant appointment in his home town. With the traditional laying of the foundation stone, the official starting signal was given for another Tecklenburg GmbH project in Straelen: for the new residential and commercial complex “Markt Höfe” in the flower city.
With his team, Hermann Tecklenburg is thus now realising the third project on Straelen’s market square and, with this development, is completing the townscape of the historic old town centre.
Digging on the construction site has been going on for some time. A delay occurred when remnants of a wall were found in the ground. “The archaeological monument is being preserved on the property,” Tecklenburg sales director Sandra von Lobenstein explained on Thursday when asked.
As a compromise with the monument authority, the company gave up four parking spaces among the deep-set “double parkers”. With the Markt Höfe, the sales director said, Tecklenburg is continuing its strategy – following the Markt Rose and Markt 4-6 projects – of removing shabby corners in Straelen’s centre. In the heart of Straelen, a new residential and commercial building with 17 condominiums is being created, distinguished in particular by the eponymous courtyards. These elevated atriums are intended to provide peace and privacy; they are complemented by large balconies, loggias and terraces. In addition, a commercial/gastronomy space with a sunny outdoor area is planned on the ground floor, which will round off the market with another meeting place and contribute to a lively city life.

As the sales director further reported, all 17 low-barrier condominiums of the Markt Höfe were sold long before construction began. “The desire to live in the countryside, embedded in an established urban and social life, with local recreation right on the doorstep and the comfort of being able to make use of a very good infrastructure, is making country living ever more attractive,” she cited as reasons. This is reflected in Straelen’s new residents. The large number of newcomers from cities such as Düsseldorf, Cologne and Duisburg confirms this development.
The site manager is Rebecca Hagmans. The Markt Höfe are expected to be completed in the course of 2023. In addition to representatives of the Tecklenburg company and the town of Straelen, the planners and architects were also invited to the laying of the foundation stone.
As usual, a “time capsule” was sunk during the ceremony, containing plans, photos and the currency of 2022. And of course the current edition of the Rheinische Post with the cover picture about the women’s national football team reaching the European Championship final on Sunday at London’s Wembley Stadium. There, Hermann Tecklenburg will once again keep his fingers crossed for his wife and the team.
