On the coronavirus crisis: Many citizens feel as I do, because the reporting on coronavirus on German television makes you ill. After a day’s work I come home, am relatively relaxed and look forward to dinner with Martina. Right on time for the Tagesschau news we switch on the television and follow the latest news from around the world. Virologists are interviewed and have their say, everyone has their own opinion. Then come the political know-it-alls, first Mr Lindner from the 5.5% party called the FDP and afterwards the Green party chairman Robert Habeck. Both criticise the actions of the federal government and don’t leave a good word to say about our Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, Mr Spahn, Mr Söder and Olaf Scholz. Yet we can and should be proud of the successful measures of our CDU/SPD-led government, the outstanding professors, doctors and nursing staff of our hospitals and university clinics, as well as the discipline of German citizens. By 8.30 p.m. I am “done” with the world, because for 15 minutes an ARD presenter tries to talk everything and everyone down, and her questions to the interviewees allow only negative answers. In my view an undignified approach and cheap opinion-mongering. In any case, I wish us for today and in the future a realistically positive way of thinking and acting. HERMANN TECKLENBURG
