Hermann Tecklenburg was in a good mood on Friday midday when he carried out the first groundbreaking ceremony on Marie-Curie-Straße. „For two decades I drove past Moers when I was heading to Duisburg, Dortmund or Düsseldorf“, said the head of the Straelen-based construction company Tecklenburg GmbH. „Then I discovered the count’s town and its potential.“ Between Kaiserstraße and the Edeka store on Uerdinger Straße, a new residential area with 100 houses and apartments is being created. Tecklenburg calls the project „live green houses“, because the houses stand on plots that, at up to 300 square metres, are large by inner-city standards. The abundance of greenery is a hallmark of the new quarter. The second is the grey-beige clinker bricks, which contrast with white rendered surfaces. The third common feature is the building types. Tecklenburg is building mainly two-and-a-half-storey semi-detached houses, 21 in number, which it offers with or without a cellar. They have a living area of 101 to 138 square metres, and prices start at 407,000 euros. Further building types are bungalows, of which five are being built, a terraced house with three units as well as two individual buildings. One will accommodate 20 to 25 condominiums, the other ten apartments that are state-subsidised. „That is a good mix“, was the delight of state parliament member and deputy mayor Ibrahim Yetim. In the first construction phase, Tecklenburg is building two semi-detached houses, a three-unit terraced house and five bungalows. „Eight units are already sold or reserved“, reported sales manager Sandra von Lobenstein. Tecklenburg wants to have these houses completed in spring 2020. In summer 2019 it wants to begin building a kindergarten, which is due to open after the summer holidays of 2020. In the second construction phase, five semi-detached houses and the individual building with condominiums are to be built from summer 2019. The apartments are 64 to 108 square metres in size and cost from 207,000 to 378,000 euros in the basic fittings. They are to be ready for occupancy at the end of 2020. In the third construction phase, 14 semi-detached houses and the building with the state-subsidised apartments will follow from autumn 2019. The new quarter, which is about the size of two good football pitches, is accessed via Kaiserstraße, to which it has three connections. Formerly there was a gravel pit there. It was connected to a railway line that ran from Moers station via Kapellen and Niep to the Hülser Berg. Today the Grafschafter cycling and hiking trail runs there. After it had been excavated, the pit was filled in with construction rubble and became predominantly municipal property. „Fortunately there are no contaminated sites here“, said the technical councillor Thorsten Kamp. He remains in contact with Hermann Tecklenburg, because after the groundbreaking ceremony the latter announced Tecklenburg’s third major project in the count’s town: „We want to develop the buildings and grounds of the Protestant church on Haagstraße. I simply can’t drive past Moers any longer.“ Source: RP
