Farewell Hans-Josef Linßen will vacate his chair as mayor of our hometown in a few days and make way for a younger colleague. Our deputy mayor Monika Lemmen honourably and with much humour bid farewell to Hans-Josef at the last council meeting. Some passages of her speech are worth mentioning here: You started as a trainee in the Straelen town administration. More than 50 years have passed since then. For six of them you were our mayor. An office that was certainly not always easy to fulfil. You were expected to be close to the citizens without being ingratiating, to possess the talent of a perfect speaker with sensational charisma, to competently lead the administrative apparatus without appearing authoritarian, to provide proposals for the town administration without seeming like a know-it-all, to have an open ear for the concerns of individuals while always keeping the common good in view, thinking politically but standing above the parties, and so on and so forth. You were expected to meet these expectations to this day! With autumnal greetings HERMANN TECKLENBURG P.S.: Monika Lemmen and Michael Traurig are standing for election as first deputy mayor. In my opinion, the citizens and not the Straelen politicians should decide who becomes deputy mayor. Source: Unser Straelen
